Secondary School

Welcome from the School Principal

HS Principal

Welcome to IAA’s Secondary School. We recognize that choice, collaboration, communication, critical thinking, and creativity are important ingredients for student engagement and learning. Our teachers work collaboratively to ensure cross-curricular, project-based learning is happening inside our classrooms. We feel strongly about assisting students to acquire the 21st century skills necessary to become the future leaders of society.

Academics

Secondary school follows a US based curriculum, which allows students to graduate with a US diploma, although they are studying in Guayaquil, Ecuador.

Our English Language Arts and Mathematics curricula are based on the Common Core Standards, a clear set of goals and expectations for the knowledge and skills students are supposed to achieve at each grade level. We follow Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS), which set the expectations for what students should know and be able to do in the sciences, and introduce students to the Engineering Design Process.

Foreign students who do not speak Spanish attend our Spanish as a Foreign Language (SFL) classes until they are ready to be integrated into the regular Spanish classes. Our Spanish department also follows Common Core Standards.

IAA recognizes the importance of technological skills for our future leaders, and thus our classes are based on the International Society for Technology in Education standards (ISTE). We also highly value our physical education program, which follows National Standards for Physical Education (SHAPE), as this helps our students to follow  healthy lifestyle habits.

Students in grades 10, 11, and 12 also have the opportunity to choose from a wide array of AP courses while studying at InterAmerican Academy. These courses help to better prepare our students for rigorous, college level courses that they will take in university.
